At 23, I’m starting to believe that it’s unhealthy to take leaving against one another.

Because leaving does not always mean betrayal. And I think that, sometimes, we’re not particularly afraid of losing people. What we’re really afraid of is having to learn to do life without them. Because, ultimately, we are creatures  of habit and comfort.

One day not far from today, that just might be our demise.

Because the world is changing and we are changing, all the time, forever and ever. And, sometimes, by holding on too hard, we lose.

And loss can be ugly, beautiful, scary or all of the above but I have found that it is, more than anything, necessary.

So when people leave, I’ve learned the secret: let them. Because, most of the time, they have to.

Let them walk away and go places. Let them have adventures in the wild without you. Let them travel the world and explore life beyond a horizon that you exist in. And know, deep down, that heroes aren’t qualified by their capacity to stay but by their decision to return.

All great people leave.

And, yes. One day, a great person just might leave you.

But our lives are made of revolving doors and for every person who leaves, a new person enters. Not as a replacement but as a completely new character in the ever-evolving story of your life.

When you leave, you begin to understand the worth of what you walked away from. You discover that walking out is not always equivalent to closing doors. Sometimes it means leaving them half-open for the journey back. It is not a virtue possessed by the easily contented. It has always been the beaten down path of the brave.

One fine day, it will be your turn. You will leave homes, cities and countries to pursue grander ambitions. You will leave friends, lovers and possibilities for the chance to roam the world and make deeper connections. You will defy your fear of change, hold your head high and do what you once thought was unthinkable: walk away. And it will be scary. At first. But what I hope you’ll find in the end is that in leaving, you don’t just find love, adventure or freedom. More than anything, you find you.

Quase todos os dias sinto que podia ser melhor na minha relação com Deus. Podia falar-Lhe mais e escutá-Lo mais. Podia estar mais certo do caminho que sei que é o certo. No entanto, prefiro, tantas vezes, falar comigo mesmo e escutar aquilo que os meus egoísmos murmuram.

O mundo é como uma floresta cheia de belezas e ameaças. Importa saber distinguir o bom do mau, e agir em favor do maior bem, com firmeza. Ora, isto é muito fácil de dizer e escrever, mas de uma dureza enorme de conseguir concretizar no dia a dia. Como se preferisse deixar-me ir.

O meu amanhã será o resultado do que me aconteceu hoje e da minha reação a isso. Se não faço nada, se me deixo ir, então o meu amanhã será o lugar exato para onde o hoje me leva. Escolher não escolher é uma opção… irresponsável.

Confiar em Deus não é deixarmo-nos ir. Porque Deus confia em cada um de nós ao ponto de nos ter criado livres, garantindo dessa forma que quando nos aproximamos d’Ele é por nossa vontade e não por mero acaso. Este mundo tende a afastar-nos de Deus, como se estivesse inclinado de forma ligeira e quem nada faz acaba por se afastar.

Mas eu ando cansado e preocupado com tantas coisas que são poucas as forças e o tempo que me restam para me dedicar ao que pode ser adiado… trato das minhas urgências e o importante fica sempre para amanhã. O pior é que eu acredito mesmo que amanhã conseguirei pôr tudo em dia, tudo! O amanhã é sempre o dia em que tudo se resolverá! Esta ideia descansa-me, mas não me compromete, porque amanhã também poderei adiar…

Sinto uma falta profunda de paz. Ou uma falta de paz profunda. Sinto-me longe de casa, sei qual é o caminho, mas parece que algo em mim me impede de ir… Arranjo desculpas e adio.
.
Por vezes, farto de assim ser, decido-me a um gesto corajoso e dou os primeiros passos. É bom, tão bom que, de forma incompreensível, decido parar e usufruir. Não ando mais e em pouco tempo volto ao mesmo, sendo que me tranquiliza a ideia de que eu consigo, se quiser e quando quiser. Ora, isso não é verdade. Eu apenas sou capaz de dar uns passos, mas não de ir sem voltar para trás.

Como posso acreditar no que não vejo? Como posso estar certo do que espero? Com fé e humildade. A confiança que nasce da fé é mais forte do que a força. É a força da vida. A verdade da nossa condição humana é que não somos senhores do mundo, nem sequer de nós mesmos. A realidade parece passar muito bem sem nós, pelo que a ideia de que somos o centro do mundo é uma idiotice completa.

A fé exige que trabalhemos na criação e construção de caminhos para o céu. Para nós mesmos e para os outros. Precisamos de viver de acordo com o que acreditamos, sob pena de perdermos a nossa identidade… e a nossa felicidade.
.
O que quer Deus de mim? Que eu seja feliz. E eu,o que quero de mim? Ser feliz. Então porque passo o tempo à espera que isso me aconteça sem que eu tenha de fazer coisa alguma?
.
A minha vida deve ser o meu templo. O lugar onde me dedico àquilo em que acredito. Onde me empenho em cumprir o que Deus me pede e que não é mais do que aquilo de bom que também eu quero.
.
O meu coração deve ser uma capela sem paredes nem teto. Onde o vento, o sol e a chuva de cada um dos dias têm sempre lugar, onde também há espaço para a necessidade e a aflição, bem como para o contentamento e a abundância.

Este coração eleva-se e encontra-se com os outros corações que também buscam o céu.
.
E o que é a oração se não uma forma de nos confiarmos ao amor, de reconhecermos a verdade do que somos e de querermos partilhar as tristezas e as alegrias?
